Portugal's southwest coast has many beaches, some remote and some accessible from coastal villages. The official naturist beaches on the Costa Dourada are Praia do Salto, only15km away, Alteirinhos, 25km away and Adegas, 45km away. There are also several unofficial beaches close to Naturest Milfontes. Praia do Malhão at just 6km away, Praia das Furnas is just 8km away and Pessegueiro is just 10km away. The southern Algarve coast is 1½ hours drive away, where there are two official naturist beaches to the east and a few unofficial beaches. Nova de Milfontes is
a pleasant
town situated at the mouth of the
River
Mira. The calm and beautiful beaches along the Costa
Vicentina are much sought after, mainly because they still retain most
of their natural features and provide excellent conditions for water
sports. There
are several interesting buildings in the town's historical centre,
particularly the Fortress (built between 1599 and 1602 to defend the
town against constant attacks by pirates) and the Parish Church. The
lighthouse of Cabo
Sardão, built at the
beginning of the
twentieth century, lies to the south of the town..
Odemira is the municipal centre, with its riverside walks along the Mira. The river gave Odemira its name and its importance through the centuries. The town spreads out along the hillsides with its beautiful white houses ornamented with colourful flowers. Zambujeira do Mar still remains as one of the last paradises on Alentejo's southwest coast. Its beaches being one of its most important attractions, but there is a lot to discover along the coastline, part of the protected area of the Parque Natural do Sudoeste Alentejano e Costa Vicentina. On the top of the cliff is the perfect natural terrace to stare at an amazing ocean's view. Alteirinhos naturist beach is close by.
